What is HCG?
HCG is an acronym for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, which is a hormone naturally produced in the body of women (although pregnant women have the highest levels). During pregnancy, HCG is the main controller of a woman’s metabolic system and tells her body to metabolize her stored fat and use it as energy.
HCG is used in small doses for weight loss to tell your body to use your stored fat in trouble areas (i.e. hips, legs, stomach, buttocks and arms) first, as energy, rather than burning your good fat and muscle. This process also allows your body to release stored toxins.
How much weight will I lose with the HCG diet?
You can lose up to 3 pounds per day; however, the average dieter loses 1 to 2 pounds a day. Your daily intake of vegetables, salad, fiber and water is extremely important to losing weight. Your current weight, and how much weight you have to lose, is also a factor in how much weight you will lose.
Is it healthy to lose 1 to 2 pounds a day?
Since the weight loss comes from stored fat and not muscle or good fat your body is not stripped of its needed muscle, vitamins and minerals.

Can’t I lose weight on a low calorie diet without HCG?
Yes, you can lose weight by simply eating fewer calories and fat, but it is very unhealthy. Without the HCG your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat while slowing down your metabolism. You will most likely lose muscle and good fat before your body uses its stored fat. By using the HCG drops your extra fat is used for energy. Won’t my metabolism slow down while on a 500 calorie diet?
Normally while on a low calorie diet your body stores fat and your metabolism slows down. This is due to your body going into starvation mode. The HCG drops signals your body to release the stored fat and convert it into energy.

Your hypothalamus gland moderates your thyroid, adrenals, fat storage, and most importantly your metabolic rate.
Will I be hungry only eating 500 calories a day on the HCG diet?
The amazing part of this diet is that most people are not hungry. However, during the first few days it is common to have mild hunger due to your hypothalamus adjusting your metabolic rate.
Can I eat the fruits whenever I want?
Yes, most people do not eat their fruit with their meals but prefer to eat them as a snack (i.e. grapefruit in the morning and an apple in the afternoon).
Is it ok to skip meals?
No, NEVER skip any of your meals. It is important to eat all 500 calories each day—especially your protein so that you only lose stored fat and not important muscle.
Who is a good candidate for the HCG diet?
Both men and women who have a minimum of 12 pounds to lose are great candidates for the HCG diet. It is recommended that you consult with a physician prior to starting any weight loss diet. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not be on the diet.
Will I gain my lost weight back after the HCG diet?

Is it normal to get headaches while on the HCG diet?
A few people experience light headaches during the first week. This is caused by your body releasing fat cells at a rapid pace and your body going through a major detox. You can take Aspirin or Tylenol as long as it is not sugar coated.
Can I take the drops longer than 21 days to lose weight?
Yes, phase 2 should last a minimum of 21 days and a maximum of 40 days. After you complete phase 3 you have to take a 21 day break before starting a new cycle. This is important because it ensures that your body does not become immune to HCG. Remember not to take the drops the last 2 days of your diet in phase 2.
What if I am on the HCG diet and not losing weight?
Remember that you are going to average 1 pound per day. Some days you will lose more and some days you will lose less, or you might even gain weight. Be patient and stick to the diet—it really works! Also remember it is important not to cheat while on the diet. Cheating can cause weight increase.
What if my weight loss plateaus while on the HCG Diet?
If you see a plateau in your weight loss then you can have an “apple day.” An apple day on the HCG diet is to eat an apple whenever you are hungry up to six apples per day. This should only last one day. During the apple day no other food or liquids except water are allowed. You should only drink enough water to quench an uncomfortable thirst. Most people feel no need for water. Most of the weight loss on an apple day is due to the elimination of water and the weight is not regained when you resume your normal 500-calorie diet.
